We have been running patchwork workshops and quilt retreats at our small hotel, The Royal Bridlington, for a number of years.  Like almost all patchworkers, Fiona Garth enjoys making the colourful tops, but found that she had an ever increasing pile of UFO's waiting to be quilted via her domestic sewing machine - which of course is doo able, but is hard work on the shoulders by having to continually manipulate the fabric through a small throat.

We seriously started looking at Longarm Quilting machines in the summer of 2013 and extensively researched the options available. We chose the ABM Innova 26 inch with autopilot, auto table lift and casters. Being in the UK and not having a dealer or engineer in the same country was one of the main reasons for choosing this machine as ABM offer 24 hour support line to the USA and superb customer support.  The lightening stitch regulator is also one of the very best available in todays market which can provide a perfect stitch length on your Longarm Quilt.

Fiona Garth and Tim Norman's machine, which they christened Rodney, arrived in October 2013 and together with our pc, called Dell Boy, ours is the first ABM Autopilot system in the UK.

In November, they decided to fly out to Utah and booked in for extensive longarm quilt training at one of the very best centres - Lets Quilt in St George. They both undertook six long, hard days of superb training with Teryl and after a short break in LA on the way home, they returned raring to get going.

ABM sent the engineer over from Houston to add the Autopilot computer system and drive belts to their machine, then they were ready to start.

Around November 2013 Fiona Garth had the idea to hold a Charity Quiltathon at the hotel, wherby they would make quilts and other items for different charities. As donations started to arrive, so did unquilted quilt tops. They began to get a head start by quilting these on their new longarm quilt machine. Over the coming weeks they quilted over 40 tops which has provided great practice and provided the charities with some superb quilts.

One lady who donated a beautiful block of the month quilt top, was so pleased with the quilting Fiona Garth had done on it, she decided to buy back her quilt!

They now provide this Longarm Quilting service to other quilters as a magnificent add on to the already successful patchwork workshops, quilt retreats and the quilt store.  Additionally there is now a large stock of different types of wadding and extra wide backing fabric available either direct or via our on-line quilt shop.
